DRBF Participates in new Certificate Program at the American University Washington College of Law in Washington, DC
In early June, Ken Roberts, President of the DRBF Executive Board of Directors, and Ann Russo, DRBF Executive Director, participated in a new Certificate Program in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution at the American University Washington College of Law in Washington, DC. The three-part course began with “Construction Law & Dispute Boards” and covered contracting strategy and early implementation of Dispute Review Boards as essential components of an effective approach to avoiding and resolving disputes for high-risk, complicated construction projects.
The course covered:
- Effect of contract structure on risk management and disputes
- Informal assistance and dispute avoidance techniques
- Efficient dispute resolution
- Statistics and case study
Washington-based construction attorney Amanda MacVey joined the session to share her perspective on DRBs from representation in the client-side of the construction trailer, which provided practical insights on the benefits of DRBs. The program offered two additional units, Construction Arbitration taught by DRBF member Andrew Ness, and Mediation: Theory & Practice by Hernando Otero.
